«In 1915, Armenians were subjected to great persecution» - Turkish broadcaster's statement
Enver Aysel, a presenter at the Turkish opposition news channel Tele1, has found himself at the center of a scandal, reports ermenihaber.
During a discussion on comments made by İzmir's opposition mayor Tunç Soyer about the Ottoman Empire, the broadcaster also negatively referred to the empire. He stated that Armenians were subjected to great persecution in 1915.
“After the great revolution of 1908, there was again a regression. One of the most painful events was that in 1915, persecution against Armenians was carried out. Not to mention that we must acknowledge the events of September 6,” said the broadcaster.
Pro-government Turkish media have condemned Aysel's remarks, accusing him of pandering to the theme of the Armenian Genocide and defending it.
