EU to Impose New Sanctions Against Russia, Borrell Says

The EU will impose new sanctions against Russia. The head of the Union's diplomatic mission, Josep Borrell, stated that the reason for this action is the referendums held in the territories occupied by Russia.

EU countries aim to implement these new sanctions "as soon as possible," Borrell explained. Additionally, he noted that Brussels will continue to provide military support to Kyiv.

Borrell also mentioned that the new sanctions will be both personal and sectoral. Currently, the EU does not have a clear understanding of what new restrictions will be applied against Russia, as only a political decision has been made. However, earlier, the chairman of the electoral commission in the Kherson region emphasized that the referendums are being conducted in accordance with all international provisions.

Previously, European politicians have already voiced opposition to sanctions. For instance, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that "by imposing sanctions against Russia, Europe is shooting itself in the foot," warning that as a result, up to 40% of European industry could come to a standstill this winter.
