VIDEO. Tensions Rise in Iran as Mass Protests Continue

In Iran, protesters have been holding rallies for nearly a week, demanding the resignation of the authorities following the death of a young woman who was detained for "improper" hijab wearing.

Women are taking off their headscarves in the streets, cutting their hair, and activists are throwing flammable substances at security forces while chanting, "Death to the dictator." Protesters are also vandalizing and destroying state symbols, setting vehicles on fire, and organizing marches that block the streets of Tehran.

The police are dispersing the protesters by opening warning fire, and it has been reported that mass arrests have begun. Earlier, on September 13, Mahsa Amini died in custody after being detained by the morality police for allegedly wearing her hijab incorrectly. She reportedly deteriorated while in the police station and died in the hospital a few hours later. According to official sources, the cause of the tragedy was a heart attack. However, witnesses and relatives assert that she died as a result of police brutality.
