Our Shavon... Everyone Knew Him: About The Soldier Killed in Captivity
Our Shavon... everyone knew him, he was not the kind of guy to get captured, said his comrade Sevak in an interview with 'Hraparak' about Shavarsh Margaryan, who was captured and later killed in captivity. Shavon, as everyone called him, served in the Nerkhin Hand positions of the Kapan community in the Syunik region.
“We served together for five months. Everyone respected him and accepted him. He was a driver who delivered food and water. He was a very brave guy. In the rain, when the enemy was shooting, he was the only one who brought food and water to the guys. During combat, he would go in head down, absolutely fearless,” Sevak recounted.
His comrade notes that Shavon was balanced, humble, and restrained. “He was an incredibly brave guy, a unique person. When the fight started, he would push the guys from behind to clear out the bodies. They couldn’t stop him; they would have already swept through the area before getting blown up by a mine. A fine, handsome guy, but most importantly, he was brave,” Sevak emphasized.
Sevak shared that the Azerbaijanis captured Shavon while he was injured, and the Armenian side was negotiating for his return. “They had come close to take a picture—his head was on the steering wheel, after they knocked the car out, then they took him away. They were negotiating for him; everyone knew him. For everyone, the primary goal was to bring him back, but they returned only his body,” said Sevak, adding that they deeply regret not being next to Shavo and his comrades during the fight.
One of the volunteers carrying out combat duty in Nerkhin Hand told us that everyone accepted Shavon and treated him with special regard. “We connected with Shavo the most during these two quarters. There wasn’t a thing said to him that he wouldn’t do; he never acted arrogant, never crossed the line, even when allowed; he was always humble, restrained, and very good—really, he was amazing,” Garineh said.
