VIDEO: Mass Protests and Clashes in Iran

The death of a girl arrested by the morality police in Iran has sparked widespread protests. According to media reports, the incident involves 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, whose death has shaken the nation.

A powerful wave of protests has erupted across the country against strict religious laws and clerical oppression. Mahsa Amini had arrived in Tehran last week and was detained by the morality police when she stepped out of the metro with her brother. The reason for her arrest was an improperly worn hijab, which has been mandatory for all women in Iran since the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

Iran's security forces released a statement confirming that Ms. Amini suddenly lost consciousness at the detention center due to a heart attack while being taught the rules of proper hijab wear. She was taken to a hospital, where she fell into a coma. An official report regarding her death was released on Friday.

According to state media, the girl had epilepsy and other health issues. However, her relatives deny this information, believing that her death resulted from being beaten at the detention center.

Her funeral turned into a protest in her hometown of Saqqez, as well as in Sanandaj, the administrative center of Iranian Kurdistan. According to Iranian human rights organizations, more than 30 people have been injured in clashes with security forces. Protesters tore down posters featuring Ali Khamenei and chanted slogans such as “Death to the dictator” and “You are a disgrace.”

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has ordered an urgent official investigation into Mahsa Amini's death. However, tensions have yet to subside.
