Turkey's Largest Bank Halts Cooperation with Russian Mir Payment System
Turkey's largest bank, Türkiye İş Bankası, has announced that it has suspended its cooperation with the Russian Mir payment system. This information was stated in a company announcement, as cited by the Turkish broadcaster Bloomberg HT.
The bank noted that this decision was made due to earlier threats from the U.S. Department of the Treasury in September, warning of sanctions against companies that assist Russian authorities in using Mir cards outside of the Russian Federation.
On the evening of September 19, İşbank ATMs ceased issuing Turkish lira from Russian Mir payment system cards, reports TASS correspondent.
