Azerbaijan Currently Has All the Means to Practically Cut Off Syunik from Armenia, Military Expert
Military expert Karen Vrtanesyan writes: “The 'unnecessary' Ishkhanasar and Lake Sevan, where the Azerbaijani army, with Nikol's direct support, advanced, solidified, and settled in two phases (in May and November 2021), controls the only road connecting Syunik with the rest of Armenia. (The same road is the Armenia-Iran highway).
Today, the Azerbaijani artillery at Ishkhanasar has the capability to keep that road under fire with ease. This means that when they say ‘Syunik is endangered’, it is actually a phase that has already passed. It is endangered but also lost; Azerbaijan currently has all the means to practically cut off Syunik from Armenia.
It doesn’t matter what document Nikol signs against the Azerbaijanis; as soon as they sense that the geopolitical situation allows them to do so, that document will mean nothing. Or they may not even wait for any document to be signed.
The real and imminent threat of cutting off Syunik from Armenia can only be eliminated by driving the Azerbaijanis out of Ishkhanasar.”
