Armenia Appeals to ECHR Over Captured and Killed Soldier David Gishyan's Case
Armenia has appealed to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), demanding urgent measures against Azerbaijan. The new application sent to the ECHR is related to the killing of conscript soldier David Gishyan, who was in captivity. Gishyan's body was among the 32 bodies transferred to Armenia last Saturday.
Hours after the attack, Azerbaijani Telegram channels released a video claiming to assist an injured Armenian soldier. “David Gishyan was, in fact, killed while in captivity. Today, we have notified the ECHR that Azerbaijan has grossly violated Article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights. We have also appealed under Article 3, which protects individuals from torture and inhumane treatment,” stated a spokesperson for Armenia’s representative on international legal affairs.
Earlier, the ECHR had obligated Baku to provide information about the Armenian captives depicted in Azerbaijani videos by September 22. Armenia has urged the European court not to wait for the deadline and to apply interim measures swiftly. This information will also be sent to the Hague court.
