Powerful Earthquake Strikes Taiwan, Tsunami Warning Issued
A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 has struck the southeastern region of Taiwan, according to local meteorological services, as reported by interfax.ru. The U.S. Geological Survey has assessed the magnitude at 7.2. A tsunami warning has been declared for the country.
CNA, referencing local media, reports that the earthquake has devastated a low-rise building that housed a store. It is also reported that a train carriage derailed on the eastern coast.
The Chinese CCTV channel has released footage of the damaged building, as well as images of a destroyed bridge, but further details regarding the situation are currently unknown.
