IAEA Reports on Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has been reconnected to the Ukrainian power grid after approximately a week of relying on generators and backup transmission lines. This was reported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

"Engineers have repaired one of the four main external power lines that were damaged during the conflict, and the Ukrainian Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is once again receiving electricity directly from the national grid," the agency stated in a press release posted on its website.

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, located on the left bank of the Dnieper River near the city of Enerhodar, is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and approved capacity. It has six energy blocks installed. Since March, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has been under the protection of Russian military forces.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has emphasized the importance of the Russian military's control over the power plant for preventing the leakage of nuclear and radioactive materials.

Ukrainian military forces regularly shell Enerhodar, surrounding villages, and areas adjacent to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
