"It's About the Azerbaijan-Nakhchivan Corridor. So Was There a Promise?" - Hrant Bagratyan

The former Prime Minister of Armenia, Hrant Bagratyan, wrote on his Facebook page:

“The UN Security Council meeting has passed. There were not many new developments. Nevertheless, we cannot overlook the very positive statements from the representatives of China, India, France, and Albania. Thank you to our ambassadors in those countries. The other speakers mostly called for restraint from both sides. So did Russia and the USA. Perhaps this is how it should be, as it reflects the behavior typical of a mediator. Today, judging by the remarks of the Pope of Rome, as well as the statements from V. Putin and the State Department, it is Russia and the USA that have succeeded in establishing a ceasefire. Azerbaijan had to pull back its forces. I believe that the selfless fight of the Armenian soldier and the spontaneously organized militia was also significant.

Will peace last long? There are two factors to consider in answering this question. What will the CSTO do? Incidentally, they again referenced the issue of delimitation and demarcation of borders. Of course, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia did not dare to declare that the absence of delimitation and demarcation does not mean that there are no borders. There is certainly a border and a boundary. Otherwise, how did you accept Armenia in 1992 with what borders? Therefore, we must be able to establish an effective security system for Armenia.

The second factor is more critical. Pay close attention especially to the words of Erdogan and Cavusoglu. They say that for a peaceful era to begin, Armenia must respect the agreements. What are these agreements, where are they written? In my opinion, this concerns the Azerbaijan-Nakhchivan corridor. So, was there a promise? Or is there perhaps a signed document? Note that recently the Nakhchivan Platform announced it would not sign any documents regarding the corridor. So why do they or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs not clarify which agreements you are talking about? If I hope there is no signed document, then it remains a verbal promise. The Prime Minister must answer whether such a thing exists or not. If so, the resignation of the Nakhchivan Platform solves the issue—if there is no signed document, then there are no obligations. Otherwise, our hope remains with Iran, which consistently opposes the corridor. Perhaps Russia is also involved? Twice, Ovechuk and once Lavrov have declared that Armenia's sovereignty cannot be violated. Well then, why do the Turks keep talking about the corridor?”
