‘The Armenian side has casualties, we have suffered significant military equipment losses,’ Simonyan to international partners
The President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, has officially addressed international partners regarding the intensive attacks by the Azerbaijani armed forces along the entire length of Armenia's sovereign territory on September 13.
“They are shelling Armenian positions in the directions of Sotk, Vardenis, Goris, Kapan, Artanish, Ishkhanasar, Jermuk, and nearby settlements using drones and mortars,” the letters state.
The National Assembly President has informed that Azerbaijani forces are also deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure and shelling it.
“The Armenian side has casualties, including civilian victims, and we have suffered significant losses in military equipment. Azerbaijani armed forces are not ceasing their attempts to attack,” the letters indicate.
Simonyan drew the attention of international partners to the fact that in recent days, Azerbaijan's military-political leadership has persistently created an information base for this military provocation, spreading false information daily about the 'alleged shelling by the Armenian side.'
Alen Simonyan reminded that such behavior is characteristic of Azerbaijan, which was proven after the 44-day war in 2020.
“In connection with Azerbaijan's aggression against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, the Armenian government has appealed to the United Nations Security Council, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), and the Russian Federation, requesting a reference to the bilateral agreement on Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance. It is evident that such flagrant and illegal actions by Azerbaijan have been facilitated by the silence of the international community as well. The lack of a targeted response and adequate actions has led to a more reckless aggression from the Azerbaijani authorities,” Simonyan summarized, calling for measures to address this vital issue and to contribute to the cessation of Azerbaijani aggression, which undermines the stability and security of the entire region.
The President of the National Assembly has officially addressed the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Duarte Pacheco, and Secretary-General Martin Chungong, the President of the CSTO PA, Vyacheslav Volodin, the President of the CIS PA, Valentina Matviyenko, and the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola.
