There Is No Talk of Troop Withdrawal from Zaporizhia NPP, Focus Is on Main Issue: Peskov

There is no discussion of withdrawing troops from the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), as the priority is to force Ukraine to cease the shelling of the facility. This was stated by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary for the President of Russia, in response to questions from journalists regarding whether Russia is prepared to withdraw troops from the Zaporizhia NPP at the request of the IAEA. His remarks were quoted by RIA Novosti.

“Right now, there is no talk of troop withdrawal. The focus is on the main issue, which is to compel the Ukrainian side to stop the barbaric shelling of the plant’s territory, which carries very sad and disastrous consequences. We continue to urge all countries that have influence over the Ukrainian side to use that influence to stop the shelling, which continues every day,” Peskov stated.

Additionally, the press secretary emphasized that the special military operation continues and will persist until all set objectives are achieved. The Zaporizhia NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper River, near the city of Enerhodar. It is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of reactors and approved capacity, with six energy units installed. Since March, the facility has been under the protection of Russian military personnel. The Russian Foreign Ministry has highlighted the importance of the Russian military securing the power plant to prevent a leak of nuclear and radioactive materials.
