Athens Holds Itself Unsettled: Cavusoglu Warns Greece

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has warned Greece about the consequences of "adventurism at the expense of others," Anadolu Agency reports.

"Athens is holding itself in an unsettled manner. Those who are guided by external forces are doomed to reap the consequences of their actions. My words serve as an open warning to Greece," Çavuşoğlu stated during a speech in Ankara.

NATO allies Greece and Turkey have often been on the brink of armed conflict due to territorial disputes. A new phase of tension began on August 23, when Turkey's Ministry of Defense claimed that Greece had deployed Russian-made S-300 air defense systems during a NATO mission to target Turkish F-16s. Greece has denied this.

In recent days, rhetoric between the two countries has sharply escalated. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan previously stated that Greece threatens Turkey with S-300 air defense systems and will pay a "heavy price" if it "proceeds further."

Turkey's National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar declared that Ankara expects objectivity from NATO regarding the use of S-300s by Greece to pursue Turkish aircraft. He stated that Greece ignores international law, friendly relations, and camaraderie.

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias has sent letters to the head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell and NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg regarding the serious threat of conflict with Turkey, linked to provocative statements made by Turkish politicians.
