Why the Operation of the Last Sixth Power Unit of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant Was Halted
The halt of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant's power units is related to the potential emergency situation caused by the constant changes in the loads and operating modes of the turbines and reactors due to the shelling of high-voltage lines and energy infrastructures, said Vladimir Rogov. This was reported to RIA Novosti by the primary council of the Zaporizhzhia regional administration.
Earlier, regional authorities announced the cessation of operation of the last active sixth power unit of the nuclear power plant.
“The shutdown of the power units at the Zaporizhzhia NPP is due to the fact that the operation modes of the reactors and turbines of the power units are constantly forced to change. The shelling of the plant and power lines has led to damage, which has made it necessary to continuously alter the operating regime of the power units, an act that is extremely detrimental to them,” Rogov stated.
He added that at this moment, high-voltage power lines serving the liberated area have been severed due to targeted shelling by Ukrainian forces. Under the initiative of the Ukrainian authorities, the transmission of electricity to the area controlled by Kyiv has been suspended.
