The Last Operating Unit at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant Ceases Operations
The last operating nuclear unit at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has ceased operations, as reported by Vladimir Rogov, a member of the main council of the new military-civil administration of the Zaporizhzhia region to RIA Novosti.
“In recent days, the only functioning unit, the sixth, operated at minimal capacity and was shut down at 3:45 AM; it is currently not producing electricity,” he stated.
According to the CAA representative, the constantly changing modes of operation of the reactors and turbines could lead to an accident.
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is located on the left bank of the Dnieper River near Enerhodar. It is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity. Since March, it has been under the protection of Russian military forces. Ukrainian troops regularly carry out artillery strikes on Enerhodar and the vicinity of the plant.
