Red Cross Visits Armenian Prisoners Held in Azerbaijan
The recent visit of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan took place at the end of August and the beginning of September. This information was provided to Sputnik Armenia by Zara Amatuni, head of communication programs at the ICRC.
“Our delegates in Azerbaijan met with all those whose captivity has been confirmed by the Azerbaijani side. The detainees were given the opportunity to communicate with their families through video messages, letters, and phone calls,” Amatuni said.
According to her, the focus of the meetings was on the health conditions of the detainees, as well as the conditions of their confinement, which were documented not only during the general visit but also during private conversations. This information is not subject to publication.
The ICRC hopes that regular visits will continue. It is noteworthy that by September 8, Baku confirmed the presence of 38 Armenian military captives and civilians. On September 8, five Armenian military captives were transferred to the Armenian side.
According to Armenian human rights defenders, there are an additional 80 people in captivity not included in the Azerbaijani lists.
