Condition for Launching Units of Zaporizhzhia NPP Revealed
The launch of the energy units at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) is possible after an agreement is reached between the IAEA, Rosatom, and Ukrainian Energoatom, said Alexander Volga, head of the Enerhodar administration, as reported by RIA Novosti.
“The operation of ZNPP energy units depends on the authorities of the IAEA, Rosatom, and NNEGC (Energoatom group),” Volga stated in an interview on Rossiya 24 channel.
He added that the shutdown of the last operating energy unit at the plant occurred under the instruction of Ukrainian Energoatom, which is responsible for the operational management of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
The Zaporizhzhia NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper River near the city of Enerhodar. It is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of reactors and installed capacity, having six energy units, each with a capacity of 1 gigawatt. Since March, it has been under the protection of Russian military forces. The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that this move is justified to prevent the leakage of nuclear and radioactive materials.
Ukrainian military forces continue to periodically shell Enerhodar and the territory adjacent to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
