18 Passengers Killed in Crash Between Tourist Bus and Truck in Mexico
At least 18 people have died as a result of a collision between a passenger bus and a heavy truck transporting fuel on the Victoria-Monterrey highway in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. This was reported on Saturday, September 10, by the Aristegui Noticias portal.
The Tamaulipas Attorney General's Office confirmed that at least 18 individuals lost their lives due to a fire that erupted following the collision between the passenger bus and the fuel-laden truck. Preliminary reports indicate that the tank detached from the truck and plunged into the passenger bus, igniting a fire that spread to both vehicles. Only charred remains have been recovered from the bus.
The driver of the articulated truck has been taken into custody to determine the circumstances of the accident and his potential involvement in the fatal crash. It is believed that the driver attempted to flee the scene.
The passenger bus was traveling from Hidalgo state to Monterrey in Nuevo León.
