Ukraine has almost 2 million tons of coal in storage: the Prime Minister outlines the country’s plan
Ukraine is ready to consider the possibility of exporting coal to Poland. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on Saturday.
“At the instruction of the President of Ukraine and at the request of the Polish side, Ukraine is ready to consider the possibility of opening quotas for coal exports to Poland. We are talking about 100,000 tons in September, which is now critically needed by our Polish partners,” he wrote on his Telegram channel.
According to the Prime Minister, there are almost 2 million tons of coal in Ukrainian storage facilities. This is 2.5 times more than was accumulated at the same time last year. In early June, Shmyhal reported that coal production in Ukraine’s state mines had decreased by almost one third since the end of February.
Recall that Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki visited Kyiv on September 9, where he held talks with Zelensky and Shmyhal. President Zelensky promised to help solve Warsaw's energy issues. As Morawiecki noted, Ukraine is willing to supply electricity to the Republic from the Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plant in the near future.
