The Author of the Most Popular Photos of Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family is Our Countryman, Historian Says

Historian Haik Demoyan has discussed the history of photographs of Queen Elizabeth II. “The photos of Elizabeth II have been reproduced on banknotes, coins, stamps, and various carriers in different countries. Few know that the author of the queen's and the royal family's most successful and widely circulated photographs is our compatriot, world-famous photographer Yousuf Karsh. He first photographed the queen in 1943, and then four more times in 1951, 1966, 1984, and 1987, creating different photographic series for the queen and the royal family members. This one is still a photograph of Princess Elizabeth, taken in 1951. The author is Yousuf Karsh,” wrote the historian.

It should be noted that Yousuf Karsh was born on December 23, 1908. He was a renowned Canadian-Armenian photographer, having photographed figures such as Khrushchev, Bernard Shaw, Albert Einstein, Hemingway, and others. He is especially known for his famous portrait of Churchill. Yousuf Karsh passed away in 2002 in the United States.
