Berlusconi Says He Can Mediate Between Russia and Ukraine With Merkel

Former Italian Prime Minister and leader of the 'Forza Italia' party, Silvio Berlusconi, has stated that he could act as a mediator alongside former German Chancellor Angela Merkel to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, as reported by Kp.ru.

"I believe that Merkel can come with me or on her own to try to mediate with Putin. I would be able to try to convince him," he said during a broadcast on Rai1.

Commenting on the anti-Russian sanctions, the Italian politician expressed "regret and disappointment" that Moscow, instead of moving closer to EU countries, is strengthening its ties with "Chinese communist totalitarianism."
