Official: Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom Has Passed Away
Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom has passed away at the age of 96. This was announced in a statement from Buckingham Palace.
It is worth recalling that Queen Elizabeth II was the first British monarch to celebrate a platinum jubilee in her reign. She ascended to the throne on February 6, 1952, and was crowned on June 2, 1953, following the death of her father, King George VI.
In 1947, at the age of 21, Elizabeth married 26-year-old Philip Mountbatten, a naval officer and a member of the Greek and Danish royal families, as well as a great-grandson of Queen Victoria.
One year later, in 1948, their first child, Prince Charles, was born, followed by their daughter, Princess Anne, on August 15, 1950. The queen's second son, Prince Andrew, was born in 1960, and in 1964, their third child, Prince Edward, was born.
