When Will the New Road Connecting Artsakh Be Ready?

The new alternative road connecting Armenia to Artsakh, planned from the village of Korrnidzor in the Syunik province, is expected to be completed by spring. According to builders, 70-80% of the Armenian section will be finished by the end of this year. This information was provided to 24News by Davit Ghulunts, the head of the Teg community.

Ghulunts stated that three companies are actively working on the Armenian section of the alternative road. The Artsakh section of the new road, which replaces the Lachin corridor, is already operational. The new road is set to enter Artsakh through the villages of Teg and Korrnidzor in Syunik province, reaching the villages of Hin Shen and Mets Shen in the Berdadzor sub-region.

Since August 29, Russian peacekeepers have been deployed to a 4.7-kilometer section of the new route between Stepanakert and Goris (the Artsakh section), which is entirely asphalted. There are four Russian peacekeeping posts located along this section of the road.

When asked whether Russian border guards would oversee the Armenian section of the new road, Davit Ghulunts responded that there are already Russian checkpoints in place, but it is unclear how many will ultimately remain.

According to the community head, traffic from Armenia to Artsakh has not yet begun along the planned road from Korrnidzor, but rather via an asphalt road that doesn’t reach Korrnidzor.
