US Reaches Out to Erdogan with Proposal
The US State Department has responded to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's recent statement regarding Greece, in which he threatened Athens against the backdrop of Turkish-Greek tensions. Erdogan specifically stated, "We might suddenly come one night." According to a written statement from the US State Department, they support the de-escalation of tensions between NATO members and US allies Greece and Turkey through diplomatic means. Washington has urged both parties to refrain from aggressive rhetoric and actions that could further escalate the situation.
It was noted that the Pentagon's chief is in constant communication with both sides to reduce the existing tensions. Earlier, it became known that the Turkish Ministry of Defense is preparing to provide information to NATO regarding reports of Greek air defense systems targeting Turkish aircraft in the Aegean airspace. Meanwhile, the Greek side denied claims from Turkish media that Turkish aircraft were being targeted or pursued, deeming them baseless. Furthermore, the Greek side regularly issues statements regarding violations of their airspace by Turkish air forces. Recently, Turkish sources reported that Greek fighter jets had pursued Turkish military aircraft, but Athens also rejected these accusations.
