Liz Truss Officially Assumes Office as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

47-year-old Liz Truss today officially took over as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after meeting with Queen Elizabeth II at the Balmoral estate in Scotland. The Queen has formally tasked the 56th Prime Minister of Britain with forming a government.

More than 57 percent of party members voted in favor of Truss, with over 80,000 members of the ruling party participating. In contrast, her rival, former Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak, received approximately 60,000 votes.

Earlier today, Queen Elizabeth II accepted the resignation of Boris Johnson from the position of Prime Minister. Johnson had submitted his resignation two months ago and left the estate today to applause from supporters.
