Hotel Rooms in Armenia Insufficient for Tourists, Vahan Kerobyan Presents Data
Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan has made a Facebook post indicating that the number of tourists visiting Armenia in August this year reached approximately 262,000. The post states: “In August, the number of tourists who visited Armenia amounted to around 262,000, slightly below the figures of 2019. Notably, 63% of tourists arrived via Zvartnots, which seems to set a record for the number of arriving passengers at Zvartnots throughout its history (this will be verified further). In July and August, there has been a severe shortage of hotel rooms in Armenia, and I invite the attention of investors and entrepreneurs interested in this sector.”
According to the minister's published data, between January and August of this year, Armenia welcomed 1.03 million tourists, which is an increase of 160,000 compared to the same period last year (870,000). During the mentioned period, 45% of the tourists who visited Armenia came from Russia, 9% from Georgia, 7% from Iran, 3% from the USA, and 1% from Germany. Approximately 60% of the tourists arriving in Armenia are men.
