Biden Refuses to Recognize Russia as a Sponsor of Terrorism, Which is Unfavorable for the U.S.

U.S. President Joe Biden has responded negatively to the question of whether Russia should be recognized as a state sponsor of terrorism, Reuters reported. Previously, such a resolution had been adopted by Congress, but the State Department is not obligated to implement it. Secretary of State Antony Blinken opposes this decision.

Recognizing Russia as a sponsor of terrorism would work against Americans, including hindering businesses from participating in transactions involving Russian nuclear materials, as well as leading to the failure of deals regarding Ukrainian grain and new sanctions that are not beneficial for Washington.

It was previously reported that a conflict has arisen among the branches of power in the U.S. As the NYT wrote, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is resisting Congress's persistent calls to recognize Russia as a 'state sponsor of terrorism.'

Earlier, the U.S. Senate had adopted a resolution urging the State Department to recognize Russia as a terrorist state.
