Why has Gazprom halted the operation of the only functioning turbine of Nord Stream?

Gazprom has responded to Germany’s accusations regarding the cessation of operations of the only functioning turbine of Nord Stream. This was reported by Readovka.

It has been noted that the malfunction detected in the turbine's operation contradicts the laws of the Russian Federation. Gazprom stated that the condition of the last engine at the ‘Portovaya’ compressor station of Nord Stream 1 does not meet the standards required by the Russian industry.

As explained by the company, Siemens engines have a systemic flaw—an oil leak—which poses the risk of fire or explosion.

“The further operation of this gas pumping station without eliminating the identified deficiencies creates the risk of fire or explosion, which affects the industrial safety of the entire station,” reports the Gazprom press service.

Earlier, the head of the company, Alexey Miller, warned that due to sanctions, it is impossible to carry out the planned capital repairs of the engines, which would ultimately lead to the complete closure of the entire pipeline when the Siemens turbines finally exhaust their safe operational lifespan.
