VIDEO. Forest Fire in Kazakhstan Spreads Towards Villages

Two days ago, a forest fire that started in northern Kazakhstan has spread towards nearby villages, leading to the evacuation of 1,841 people. The fire has damaged and destroyed over 100 homes. As a result of the fires, one person has died and ten others have been injured, including three emergency services employees.

The head of Kazakhstan's Ministry of Emergency Situations, Yuri Ilyin, reported that the total area affected by forest fires in the Kostanay region of northern Kazakhstan has reached 43,000 hectares as of this morning.

Ilyin noted that there are eight active hotspots where the spread of the fire is likely.
