Why Do Azerbaijani Vehicles Occasionally Pass Through Alternative Routes?
The Republic of Artsakh's use of an alternative route for Azerbaijani vehicles passing through the corridor connecting it with the Republic of Armenia is related to the relocation of peacekeeping forces' bases from the previous route to the new one, which has been coordinated with the authorities of Artsakh. This was stated by the office of the Security Council of the Republic of Artsakh in response to a written inquiry from News.am.
On September 1, a media crew traveling from Armenia to Artsakh observed that Azerbaijani vehicles were also using the new alternative temporary road. It had previously been reported that since August 30, traffic from Armenia to Artsakh has been conducted via an alternative temporary route. The temporary road is fully asphalted. However, construction works are still ongoing, including the development of a road connecting the villages of Sus and Aghavno.
The construction of the main road segment traversing Artsakh was completed by the Azerbaijani side back in July, while the construction of the Armenian section, which began on August 4, is expected to be completed by next spring. It is noteworthy that Azerbaijan's newly constructed road, which is more than 11 meters wide and 21 meters long, starts from Meghri Shen, reaches Hin Shen, and continues to the bridge built over the Aghavno River. Construction work on the bridge has been completed, connecting both banks of the river.
The total length of the new main road is 32 kilometers, of which 10 kilometers are within Armenian territory. The Armenian side started construction in August and is scheduled to finish it by the next spring.
