What Did Obama Dream of Back in 2014? Senator Discusses Sanctions Related to Moscow

Sanctions surprised not only Moscow but also Western leaders, despite German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s assertions, wrote Senator Alexey Pushkov on Telegram, as reported by RIA Novosti.

Previously, the head of the German government expressed the opinion that the restrictive measures had shocked Russian leadership. Pushkov stated, “Regardless of what the German Prime Minister writes, it is the West that is most surprised, and they are surprised that once again they failed to dismantle the Russian economy, as Obama dreamed back in 2014.”

As the politician explained, Western countries did not expect that the sanctions would have a devastating impact on their own economies. He noted that leaders of Euro-Atlantic countries still do not fully understand the long-term consequences of their actions. Moreover, further attempts to strike Russia will only worsen the West's positions.

“But it seems that in Western capitals they are thinking exclusively about economic warfare, not about the fact that they themselves will be its victims,” concluded Pushkov.
