Video: What Did Charles Michel Promise?

On August 31, in Brussels, a meeting was held between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, mediated by the President of the EU Council, Charles Michel. Following the meeting, Charles Michel made a statement in Brussels, emphasizing the importance of the release of Armenian prisoners by Azerbaijan. He promised that the EU would continue to address this issue.

Among the discussed topics, Michel highlighted the progress made in discussions regarding delimitation and the unblocking of transport connections. “In all these discussions, I would like to emphasize that it is important for both populations to be led and prepared for long-term sustainable peace. Public messaging in this regard is extremely important; in such a sensitive situation, every word spoken in the public domain is clearly heard by the other side and discussed,” the EU president stated.

According to Charles Michel, the exchange of opinions between the parties was open and effective, covering the entire range of our agenda. “Numerous steps have been taken to advance the agreements reached during our last meeting. Today, we agreed to accelerate substantial work towards facilitating a peace treaty to regulate interstate relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” he added.

He noted that the EU is ready to further strengthen its support for the issue of long-term sustainable peace.
