Zelensky Explains Russia's Objectives
In recent hours, Russian armed forces have shelled and launched missile strikes on several settlements in southern Ukraine. Against this backdrop, President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that Moscow aims to take a "cruel" action against Kyiv as the country approaches the next anniversary of Ukraine's independence on August 24.
In a video address broadcast hours ago, the Ukrainian president also stated that Russia's goal is to humiliate Ukrainians and spread fear and despair. "However, we must be strong to resist and make the invaders pay for their terrorism," he emphasized.
August 24 marks the 31st anniversary of Ukraine's independence, coinciding with the half-year mark since the Russian invasion began.
