Three Families Remain in Berdzor, Mayor Reports

In the town of Berdzor, located in the Kashatagh region of Artsakh, only three families remain, though there are still individual residents, about 30 people in total, according to Berdzor Mayor Narek Aleksanyan in an interview with 24News.

He mentioned that graves are currently being exhumed, and the khachkars (Armenian cross-stones) have long been transferred from Berdzor. Today, the soldier's monument was removed from Peace Square. “The houses are mostly left as they were. Residents have partially taken their belongings. Five families have moved to Artsakh, while the rest have gone to Armenia,” he noted.

The mayor stated that the residents of Berdzor have not yet been provided with certificates for purchasing new apartments, and it remains unclear where they will reside permanently.

It is recalled that Azerbaijan, via Russian peacekeepers, informed the residents of the city of Lachin and the villages of Aghavno and Nerk’in Sus to leave their homes by August 25. The Azerbaijani side has presented this demand based on the completion of the construction of their segment of the new road connecting Armenia to Artsakh.
