NSS Issues a Statement

The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia has announced that the information circulating in the media and social platforms regarding the potential closure of local and international roads during transit from the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and vice versa, which would hinder the free movement of residents within Armenia, is inaccurate.

It is reported that the draft government decision, which includes amendments to the decision No. 703-N of the Government of the Republic of Armenia dated May 12, 2011, is currently under consideration. This draft envisages the opening of three new checkpoints that will facilitate transit from the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic by road.

Currently, the potential (road) transit routes and regulations are in the development phase, and there will be no closures or other restrictions on local and/or international (interstate) roads that would affect the movement of Armenian citizens, as well as foreigners and their vehicles.
