Erdogan May Hold Elections Sooner Than Planned: What Is the Reason?
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan may hold elections earlier than scheduled, as soon as this autumn, according to a report by the German publication Welt am Sonntag, as reported by RIA Novosti.
The next presidential and parliamentary elections in Turkey are set for mid-June 2023.
"There are several indications that President Erdogan will likely move the elections to this year, possibly in the autumn. This could happen in a relatively short time frame," the publication wrote, citing EU diplomats.
It is specified that one of the reasons for scheduling early elections could be the potential short-term recovery of Turkey's crisis-stricken economy following tourism revenue this summer, which might improve public sentiment.
