ECHR Addresses the Displacement of Residents in Berdzor and Aghavno Communities

On August 19, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) reaffirmed the interim measures applied on September 29, 2020, and further expanded on November 3 of the same year regarding the protection of the rights of the civilian population of several settlements in the Republic of Artsakh by the Republic of Armenia. This information was reported by the Office of the Representative of Armenia for International Legal Matters.

The ECHR called on the parties to refrain from actions that could lead to violations of the rights of the civilian population protected by the Convention, including endangering their rights protected by Articles 2, 3, and 8 of the Convention.

The ECHR also noted that the incidents referenced by the Armenian government, including armed attacks on peaceful settlements and threats of displacement to the residents of Berdzor and Aghavno communities, fall under the decision made on September 29, 2020, which remains in effect to this day.
