Earthquake Felt in Ararat Province: Where Was the Epicenter?
On August 17, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4 was recorded 41 km northeast of the city of Maku in the Iran-Turkey border area. The tremors were felt in the Ararat Province, specifically in the towns of Artashat and Ararat, as well as in the villages of Vosketa, Yeraskh, and Surenavan, where the intensity was measured at 2-3 on the Richter scale.
During the period from August 11 to 17, two earthquakes of magnitude 3 and above were recorded in the region. One of the earthquakes occurred on August 15, 42 km northwest of the city of Akhaltsikhe in Georgia, with a magnitude of 3-4.
Over the past week, the Seismic Protection Territorial Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations has reported no recorded earthquakes of magnitude 2-3 or greater in the territories of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh.
