Turkey Decides to Restore Diplomatic Relations with Israel
Turkey has decided to appoint an ambassador and restore diplomatic relations with Israel. As reported by the Turkish Anadolu Agency, this announcement was made by Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
The Turkish minister stated that Israel has responded positively. “Soon the nominee for the ambassador position will be presented to the president. God willing, everything will turn out well for both sides,” said Çavuşoğlu.
According to RIA Novosti, Israeli President Isaac Herzog welcomed Turkey's decision. “It is an important event that will contribute to the development of economic relations, tourism, and the strengthening of friendship between the Israeli and Turkish peoples. Friendly relations and the spirit of partnership in the Middle East are important for all of us,” the president's statement reads.
Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid, for his part, stated that the resumption of relations with Turkey is important for regional stability and is significant economic news for Israeli citizens.
It is worth noting that relations between Turkey and Israel sharply deteriorated in 2010 following an incident related to the boarding of the Mavi Marmara ship by Israeli special forces.
