Building to be Completely Dismantled After Work Completion: Deputy Minister
A recent explosion at the 'Surmalu' shopping center has left two citizens missing, one of whom was located near the entrance on the first floor at the time of the incident. This was stated today by Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Atyusha Grigoryan during a press briefing at the site, noting that currently there are two individuals being searched for and 16 confirmed fatalities, one of whose identity has yet to be established, according to Sputnik Armenia.
“Today we will be conducting search and rescue operations in the vicinity of the building. This adds additional challenges due to the risk of further collapses and debris. We have invited specialists from the seismic service and a private company to ensure the safety of the rescuers,” said the Deputy Minister.
According to him, ventilation work is currently being carried out around the building so that rescue dogs and handlers can conduct their operations effectively. Grigoryan added that 70 percent of the area has been cleared, and after the work is completed, the building will be completely dismantled.
It is important to recall that an explosion occurred at the 'Surmalu' shopping center on August 14 at approximately 13:23.
