Azerbaijan's Commissioner for Human Rights Representatives Visit Armenian Captives

Representatives of Azerbaijan's human rights commissioner, Sabina Aliyeva, visited Armenian captives on the instruction of the national group for the prevention of torture. This information has been reported by local media, citing the press service of the human rights defender.

The purpose of the visit was to familiarize themselves with the conditions of detention of the captives, their treatment, and the protection of their rights. During the visit, which also included a member-doctor of the national group for the prevention of torture, meetings were held with citizens of Armenia who are serving sentences in Azerbaijan.

“In private conversations, it was revealed that each prisoner is provided with phone connectivity, correspondence, communication with family members, access to information (television, publications), and medical services. There were no complaints regarding the conditions of detention and their treatment,” the message states.

The office of the human rights defender assured that the treatment of the captives complies with the norms of international law, and their rights are being ensured, including access to necessary medical and psychological services.

It should be noted that Baku confirms the presence of 38 Armenian military captives and civilians. Official Yerevan insists that this number is higher. According to human rights defenders, an additional 80 people are in Azerbaijani captivity.
