62-Year-Old Gyumri Resident Arrested on Suspicion of Making False Terrorism Alerts

The Shirak Regional Investigation Department of the RA Investigative Committee has uncovered several details concerning incidents of false alerts regarding threats of terrorism and the destruction of property of significant value, following immediate investigative and procedural actions, as well as necessary measures taken in conjunction with the RA police.

On August 15 and 16, 2022, at various times, reports were received that an individual identifying himself as Gevorg Sargsyan had called the Mush Division of the RA Police, claiming he was planning to blow up the National Assembly of RA, the Gyumri Territorial Tax Inspectorate, and other administrative buildings.

As a result of urgent measures, it was confirmed that these reports were baseless and did not reflect reality. Following the appropriate actions, information was obtained regarding the individual responsible for the false alerts, who is a 62-year-old resident of Gyumri.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated by the Shirak Regional Investigation Department of the RA Investigative Committee under the first part of Article 314 and the first part of Article 194 of the RA Criminal Code, which have been combined into a single proceeding. The Gyumri resident has been arrested on suspicion of disseminating false information about terrorism and has been presented to the prosecuting authority. The investigation is ongoing.
