Impact of the ‘Surmalu’ Explosion on Air Quality Revealed
The assessment of the impact of the explosion at the ‘Surmalu’ shopping center involved additional sampling from the nearby area on August 14-15, as reported by the Hydro-Meteorological and Monitoring Center. Measurements of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide levels in the atmosphere were conducted.
The concentration of sulfur dioxide exceeded the allowable limit (maximum permissible concentration, MPC) by 4.6 times, while the concentration of nitrogen dioxide surpassed the limit by 2.6 times.
According to data from stationary stations, air quality in the capital on August 15-16 showed that the concentration of dust in the air of the Kentron community exceeded the corresponding MPC by 1.4 times, the concentration of nitrogen dioxide by 1.6 to 1.8 times, and the concentration of sulfur dioxide by 1.1 to 1.3 times.
In the Nor Nork community, the concentration of dust also exceeded the corresponding MPC by 1.4 times, while the concentration of nitrogen dioxide was negligible.
