British Writer Stabbed in New York, Iran Places $3.3 Million Bounty on His Head

British writer Salman Rushdie was stabbed while giving a lecture at the Chautauqua Institute in western New York, according to the Associated Press.

Reports indicate that the assailant initially struck Rushdie with his fists before stabbing him, after which he was apprehended by security personnel. The New York Police Department clarified that the writer was stabbed in the neck and was airlifted to a hospital. Currently, there is no information available regarding his condition.

In 2012, Iran's 15-Khordad Foundation set a bounty of $3.3 million for the writer's assassination. In 1989, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa calling for Mr. Rushdie's death in response to the publication of his novel "The Satanic Verses", which described incidents in the life of the Prophet Muhammad that contradict Islamic holy texts.
