Tatev-Aghvan Road Segment Put into Operation Under Slight Force Majeure Situation: Pashinyan
During the government meeting, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed the condition of the Tatev-Aghvan road.
“The Tatev-Aghvan road was put into operation under a slight force majeure situation at the end of last year. Initially, it was planned as an inter-community road and was put into operation, but later we saw this year that the road has very serious problems. There were potholes, and so on,” he said.
Pashinyan also noted that since the beginning of the year, efforts have been made to improve the road, and according to his information, most of the issues have been resolved.
“There is a remaining section of 500 meters where we need to address the pothole issue,” he added.
The Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Gnel Sanosyan, also assured that currently there is less than 500 meters remaining.
“Probably, by tomorrow there will be no more potholes; it will be completely asphalted. The process of installing the third layer has already begun, about 5.8 km has been installed. If we can manage, we will allocate funds for the last layer to the other contractor in the next government meeting. Since there were quite a few issues, if problems arise again in certain places, the construction workers will fix them along the way, and we will install the last layer of asphalt,” said Sanosyan.
In response to Pashinyan's question: “Are we confident that this road will properly service freight vehicles, or do we still have doubts about the condition of the road?” Minister Sanosyan replied: “We can say we are 90 percent confident, but there may be some places where issues arise because there have been cases where there was no problem, but the neighboring section was dug up or altered, and another issue suddenly opened somewhere else. So the probability is now low. We assume that installing the third layer of asphalt will resolve that issue.”
