Latvia's Parliament Declares Russia a State Supporting Terrorism

Latvia's parliament has declared Russia a "state supporting terrorism," according to the Saeima press service. As reported on the official website of the Latvian Parliament, on August 11, the Saeima adopted a statement recognizing "Russia as a state supporting terrorism," while acknowledging the actions against the Ukrainian population as "terrorism."

Russia initiated military actions in Ukraine on February 24. President Vladimir Putin has described the objective as the "protection of people who have been subjected to violence and genocide by the Kyiv regime for eight years."

According to him, the goal is to implement the "demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine" and to hold accountable all military criminals responsible for "bloody crimes against citizens in Donbas."

As per information from the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Armed Forces have struck only military infrastructure and Ukrainian troops and, as of March 25, have completed the primary objectives of the first phase, significantly reducing Ukraine's combat potential. The key mission outlined by the Russian military department was the liberation of Donbas.
