First Shops Fined in Paris for Keeping Doors Open with Air Conditioners Running
First shops in Paris have been fined for keeping their doors open while running air conditioners. This has been reported by Parisien. The aim of this measure is to encourage energy savings.
“In the context of the heat and energy crisis, I am outraged to see the irresponsibility of businesses with air conditioning that leave their doors open,” tweeted Paris Deputy Mayor Denis Leert on July 17.
Since then, several cities have issued orders forcing shops to close their doors when the air conditioner or heater is on. In Paris, the decree took effect on July 25, but the city hall gave shops a three-week awareness campaign break. Thus, as of Wednesday, Parisian merchants are subject to fines. They face fines of up to 150 euros.
