Azerbaijan Completes Construction of New Highway Bypassing Berdzor
Azerbaijan has completed the construction of a new highway bypassing the city of Berdzor in Artsakh, reports minval.az.
The construction of the new bypass road began in July 2021. The total length of the road is 32 km, of which 10 km is located within Armenian territory. The road has been designed to meet the III technical standard level.
It is noteworthy that the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Artsakh, Hayk Khanumyan, has warned the residents of Agavno and Berdzor that they must leave Agavno and Berdzor by August 25.
Despite the sixth point of the trilateral statement dated November 9, 2020, which stipulates that a new route along the Lachin corridor must be established within the next three years by mutual agreement of the parties to ensure essential connectivity between Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia, Azerbaijan has paved a road further south of the current corridor without this project being approved (as claimed by the Armenian side).
On August 4, during a government meeting, the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Gnel Sanosyan, announced that the segment of the new road connecting Tegh-Korniidor-border is expected to be completed by spring 2023, and work is already underway.
