Mother Sells 7-Year-Old Son for 300,000 Rubles in Russia

A resident of Yekaterinburg has been accused of selling her seven-year-old son for 300,000 rubles, as reported by RIA Novosti.

According to investigators, a 36-year-old woman, temporarily unemployed at the end of July 2022, posted an advertisement on a social networking site offering her son for sale. In correspondence with a 'potential buyer', she stated that she would sell the child for 300,000 rubles.

Police and volunteers from the anti-trafficking organization 'Alternative' intervened with the accused. One of the volunteers contacted the woman, and they agreed to meet at a shopping center to discuss the details of the 'transaction'.

'We hoped until the end that this story was some kind of a foolish prank or an attempt by scammers to extort money. However, when our team, already in Yekaterinburg, reached the scene with officers from the organized crime division, we witnessed the sale of the boy. Nargizana received the money and handed over the child to a stranger,' reported the 'Alternative' organization.

According to the arrested woman, she committed the crime due to financial difficulties, although her husband informed investigators of a monthly income of 120,000 rubles, and the family lived in a two-room apartment and had built their own house. Therefore, other motives may also be at play.

In addition to the boy, the family has two other children: a younger daughter and an older son, according to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The boy was transferred to the hospital for medical care, after which his future living arrangements will be determined, the administration stated.
